On this date in 1974, the Grateful Dead brought their Wall of Sound indoors to the Portland Memorial Coliseum.

  • By all accounts, this is the night Bill Walton went backstage and met the band for the first time. 9 days later, he was the first pick in the NBA Draft by the Portland Trailblazers! We all know how this relationship has progressed.

  • The band played a whopping 33 songs over 3 hours and 40 minutes of stage time!

  • The show is "an all around gem" and the China>Rider specifically is as inspirational, bright, and airy as anything they ever played.

For the fans of the Grateful Dead, there were always different ways to experience the music. Since the late 60s, there were big festivals and stadiums, as well as small theatres and surprise free public gigs. You just had to keep in touch with others that lived and breathed it daily, and you would find the opportunities!

Do you have a plan that keeps you positioned to capture such daily opportunities?
