Charity Spotlight - Music Will

Updated: Dec 25, 2022

In the interest of making people feel better about the affect of their capital on the world, we feature charities that help achieve just that. If you need advice on the best way to structure your giving (with cash, appreciated stock, or through a Donor Advised Fund), we're here to help!

This month's featured charity is Music Will (formerly known as Little Kids Rock), a 501(c)(3) based in Monclair, New Jersey. Music Will runs the largest non-profit music program in the US public school system, serving over 500,000 students in more than 600 cities across the country.

Founded by former first-grade educator Dave Wish, and initially supported by the likes of Carlos Santana, Bonnie Raitt, and John Lee Hooker, Music Will is on a mission to transform lives by transforming music education.

"Here at Music Will, we believe that music education should reflect the cultures of the students it serves. Every kid is a music-maker and by helping them unlock this we help grow a compassionate and creative generation. One that is equipped—and motivated—to take on our greatest challenges." Miranda Altman, Director, Program Operations.

As Barbara Murray, NYC Department of Education's former Director of Music says, "Every student and every teacher that has come through and learned the program has raved about it because it's immediately accessible, kids love to play music of their own generation, and teachers love to have students succeed immediately."
