In the interest of making people feel better about the affect of their capital on the world, we feature charities that help achieve just that. If you need advice on the best way to structure your giving (with cash, appreciated stock, or through a Donor Advised Fund), we're here to help!

Education Through Music (ETM) is a not-for-profit tax-exempt 501(c) (3) organization that changes lives through the power of music, based in New York City with affiliates in Los Angeles and Colorado.
Founded in 1991, Education Through Music (ETM) was created to combat the growing divide and budget cuts that were making music education a luxury in many of the city's public schools. Their mission is to positively impact the motivation, achievement, and self-confidence of underserved students by integrating music education into the core curriculum of under-resourced schools.
The ETM model is built on partnerships with school leaders, providing professional development for teachers, and a sequential, culturally responsive curriculum. Since its inception, ETM has provided over 9.5 million hours of music instruction to more than 350,000 students in 180 partner schools, working in 31 out of NYC's 32 community school districts. It’s also worth noting that a significant portion of the students they serve are students of color (91%), live below the poverty line (86%), and have special needs (24%).
The success of their model has led to the expansion of their programs nationwide, with affiliates in Los Angeles (launched in 2006) and Colorado (launched in 2019). ETM's work is supported by various generous partners and aims to continue its mission of advancing educational equity and closing the gap in access to music education.

Education Through Music (ETM) is holding its 3rd Annual Golf Outing on October 6th to support its comprehensive music education programs in New York City schools. The event includes brunch, an 18-hole golf course, a cocktail hour, and dinner, with non-golfing tickets also available for bowling.
